The Santa Clara River Parkway:
Vision for a Bikeway from Mountains to the Sea Speaker: Jim Danza March 16, 2022 at 6:30pm Museum of Ventura County The Santa Clara River, the last wild river in southern California, is largely invisible to the approximately 1 million nearby residents. At 83 miles in length, the Santa Clara River should provide great opportunities for biking, hiking, birding and learning about nature. Jim Danza, founder of the Friends of the Santa Clara River, has worked for nearly 30 years to protect and increase public access to the Santa Clara River, which runs from the San Gabriel Mountains through Ventura County to the river mouth at the Ventura Harbor. His long-term vision is to expand the existing trail system in Santa Clarita to the entire length of the watershed. Jim will speak about this beautiful resource and current opportunities to add an exceptional river trail to Ventura County, with a particular emphasis on expansion of the bike trail system. Jim Danza is an Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Science at Oxnard College. He is a certified planner under American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). As a Navy civilian for 21 years, he worked as an Environmental Planner and the Head Planner at Naval Base Ventura County. He helped to influence planning and water policy impacting the Los Angeles River and our own Santa Clara River. He is currently Chair of the non-profit Friends of the Santa Clara River |
