About Us
The Channel Islands Bicycle Club (CIBike) is a recreational, membership cycling organization in Ventura County. CIBike was founded in 1990 and has approximately 300 members. Click here to view a presentation of "The CIBike Club History."
The club’s primary purpose is to promote bicycling for recreation, health, sport, and transportation. CIBike has a full calendar of road bike rides. As an organization with diverse member interests, there is also considerable activity and focus on mountain biking, gravel riding, bike travel, and advocacy for better bike safety and infrastructure.
CIBike is a non-profit, 501(c)4 which operates under Bylaws and is led by a Board of Directors. The “Board” is elected by club members and officers serve a term of one year. CIBike has a regular monthly meeting on the second Wednesday of each month. These meetings are open to the public and feature an entertaining and informational presentation about bicycling.
CIBike began the Cool Breeze Century ride, a supported recreational road bike ride of varying distances, in 1994. The “Cool Breeze”, now a joint effort of CIBike and Ventura Kiwanis, is held the third Saturday in August and attracts over 1,000 riders from throughout California and beyond. The ride is widely known for its scenery, varied routes, ample food, excellent on-road support, and popsicles at the final rest stop.
CIBike uses funds raised from the Cool Breeze and membership dues to financially support activities and organizations that support cycling. CIBike is proud to be a regular contributor to the League of American Bicyclists, the California Bike Coalition, Rails to Trails, Adventure Cycling, CycleCaliforniaCoast, and BikeVentura. The club provided a significant financial match to enable construction of the beautiful bicycle bridge over San Antonio Creek on the Ventura – Ojai bike path. CIBike also contributes to local support for bicycling, such as BikeVentura, Project Bike Love, training of certified bicycling instructors, and installation of bicycle work stations.
All rides, meetings, and official club activities are posted on the club’s website: www.cibike.org. Most rides, and some activities, are open to non-member guests. However, regular participation in club rides and most activities, are for members of CIBike. Come join us!
