-THE ROUTES-
The
Cool Breeze routes are basically the same as in 2007, following the coast from
Ventura to Santa Barbara. Distances include a Mini-Metric (38miles), Metric
(63), Century (102), Double Metric (125) & 200K Brevet. The weather is generally in the low 70's -- you can't ask for better
summer cycling weather! There are lots of great rest stops along the way. Except
for the Double Metric, these routes are fairly flat to rolling terrain.
200 Kilometer Brevet
(125 miles)]. Keep in mind that the 200 Kilometer Brevet route has
significantly more climbing than the Century Route and is intended for
experienced cyclists only. The Century route has approximately 3,500 feet of
climbing where the 200 K has approximately 8,500 feet of climbing.
Remember
to wear your bike helmet and bring spare tubes & patches! By the way, remember
you are riding busy streets, please be cautious at all times, and follow the
state laws on biking! Police will give tickets.

Routes Slips.
Routes could change the
day of the event. Please get an up to date route slip when you check in to
pick up your number.
Ride options to choose from:
The listed routes are basically
the same routes for 2008 with minor modifications as reflected on the route
slips.
The Mini-Metric is a flat coastal route up to Carpinteria and back route, totally flat. The Metric Century and Century routes follow the coast to Carpinteria,
then turn inland through the scenic orchards and flower ranches of East Santa
Barbara County. The Metric will loop back through Montecito and on home, while
the Century hooks up with the very challenging Double-Metric
Century riders who have ridden the Ventura River Bike Trail, into East Ojai and over Casitas Pass
and connecting with the Century Route into Goleta.
-Special Note for 200 K
Brevet Riders-
Brevets are nationally and
internationally sanctioned rides, NOT races. The brevet is put on with the help
from our friends at Pacific Coast Highway Randonneurs. Certain rules must be
adhered to if you want credit for accomplishing this ultra marathon event.
Checking in at each “control” is required. Additionally, brevet riders may only
draft other brevet riders (identified by a ribbon on their helmets). Finishers
complying with all the rules will be listed on the PCH Randonneurs and CIBC
websites. You DO NOT need to be a RUSA member to ride this ride. However, if
you would like to have your results go towards the various RUSA awards you will
need to be a member. Please make yourself familiar with the RUSA Rules for
Riders. (We will have a very short review of the rules just before the start.)
