Ride of Silence in Oxnard
May 21, 2014
The Channel Islands Bicycle Club
provided cases of water and club support for the May 21 Ride of Silence in Oxnard. Approximately 100 riders of all ages riding an array of unique bikes rode the 8-mile route to commemorate our friends and neighbors killed while riding their bikes. The Oxnard Police including Chief Jeri Williams and a phalanx of motorcycle police were on hand to show support for the event and to provide safe passage for the riders.
Dan and Margaret Mathews represented our bike club by handing our water bottles and cookies. Diane Stein purchased the water and delivered it to the Mathews for distribution.
Displayed prominently was our new club sign that generated a lot of questions and support for our own club. Riders were most appreciative of our presence.
Also present were photographers, members of the Ghost Bike organization, facility hosts from the Redwood Street Lutheran Church, local families, and Oxnard Police community services. by Margaret Mathews
