Ride of Silence in Oxnard
May 21, 2014 oxnard Police Chief with Dan Mathews at Rid eof Silence
The Channel Islands Bicycle Club provided cases of water and club support for the May 21 Ride of Silence in Oxnard. Approximately 100 riders of all ages riding an array of unique bikes rode the 8-mile route to commemorate our friends and neighbors killed while riding their bikes. The Oxnard Police including Chief Jeri Williams and a phalanx of motorcycle police were on hand to show support for the event and to provide safe passage for the riders. Dan and Margaret Mathews represented our bike club by handing our water bottles and cookies. Diane Stein purchased the water and delivered it to the Mathews for distribution. Displayed prominently was our new club sign that generated a lot of questions and support for our own club. Riders were most appreciative of our presence. Also present were photographers, members of the Ghost Bike organization, facility hosts from the Redwood Street Lutheran Church, local families, and Oxnard Police community services. by Margaret Mathews

Santa Clara Ave.

K-rail now complete on both sides of 101 from Fire Station Entrance to Bates Road.

Southbound entrance is @ Bates Road Off-Ramp.

Here is a the map.Bates Road detour map

In order to provide a continuous and safe temporary bike route along the highway, ALL bike traffic (both northbound and southbound) will ride on the northbound shoulder of the highway, protected by k-rail. This temporary bike path will run from the Bates Rd northbound off-ramp to the Old Pacific Coast Highway, through our yard/staging area across from Mobile Pier.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT
that once realignment is complete, all cyclists ride in this designated bike path, since there will no longer be a bike lane on the southbound shoulder of the highway. Cyclists need to use extreme caution when crossing the entrance to La Conchita, since vehicles have the right of way.

"Bicyclists, meanwhile — including those headed south — will be temporarily routed to the northbound side of the roadway, where they will be separated from vehicles by K-rail.
