See the Itinerary below for our Channel Islands Bike Club trip to the Buellton/Solvang/Santa Ynez/Los Olivos/Los Alamos/Lompoc area of the "Wine Country of Santa Barbara."  Base of operations is "Flying Flags RV Park Campground" Buellton, California. About 70 minutes from Ventura! So come for the weekend or even just one day!!! You can reserve an RV campsite or tent site or local hotel in the area. It all works out for a wonderfully fun, beautiful and social weekend.

ITINERARY/ACTIVITIES:

FRIDAY: October 15th:  

2008 Bike Touring to Buellton: In 2003 two clubbers biked from Ventura to Buellton & 2004 three clubbers did it, while seven biked in 2005. 2006 it rained, so no trekkers that year.  In 2008 & 2009 two bikers did the route. Sleeping bags, tents, etc. can be transported to the camping area! 

 

Dinner:  6:30pm for drinks and 7:00pm for dinner at Marriott Starting Gate Restaurant,  555 McMurray, Buellton, 1-805-688-1000. This year RSVP's are a MUST by October 12th for tables for the club members! Contact Mike Stewart to RSVP. We must have reservations for this place, so RSVP please. Also, please bring CASH!  It is easier to settle the bill at the end.
 
 
SATURDAY: October 16th:

Breakfast: 7:30am Ellen's Danish Pancake House, 272 Avenue of Flags, Buellton,688-5312. Just a 200 yard walk from the campground.

2009 Ride & Lunch:  8:30am sharp at Flying Flags Campground entrance. The most requested ride has been added back onto the agenda. The hard but fun 69 miler to  "Jalama Beach or Bust"  "route slip"  and "route map".  Those wanting a shorter and easier ride can join us for the first part of the ride and then head to Lompoc for a 38 miles the  "Lompoc or Bust"  "route slip"  and  "route map."

Dinner: 6:30pm at Flying Flag Campground for a "Club Pizza & Salad Dinner." Bring your favorite side dish, dessert or beverage for the club members to feast on tonight.  So come join the fun. PLEASE BRING A LAWN CHAIR!!!! Go to site #348!

Activity: 8:00pm, Chumash Casino  3400 E. Highway 246, Santa Ynez, 1-877-Chumash. (this is an option)
 
 
SUNDAY: October 17th:

Breakfast: 7:30am at Ellen's Danish Pancake House,272 Avenue of the Flags, Buellton,688-5312. About 200 yards from Flying Flags Campground.

2009 Ride & Lunch:  8:30am at Flying Flags Campground entrance. Check here for the about 53 miles for the "Windmill & Waterfall Adventure"  "route slip" and "route map" Lunch can be had anywhere in neighboring Lompoc An easier and shorter ride of   "Waterfall & Windmill Romp"  "route slip" can be done by going to Nojoqui Falls and back for about 25 miles!

 

BASE OF OPERATION:


Camping: Flying Flags Campground at 688-3716 ($19-23/day) for tenting on the grass with restrooms, showers and pool included!  RESERVE ONLINE SOON!  You may also bring an RV, ask for a spots across from the "grass tenting area."   CIBC Member Mike Stewart is bringing his RV  5th wheel trailer to the full hookup area. It is a white 5th wheel Copper Canyon travel trailer #1LE6794 pulled by a Chevy Silverado Silver Truck #7R64942. Look for the "Biking Bubblebee" at site #347.

                                   

Hoteling:  Days Inn Windmill at (805)688-8448 ($120/night) or (800)329-7466 for 15% discount, ask for "LRO plan code". Also at http://www.daysinn-solvang.com. Located on 114 E. Highway 246 in Buellton, directly behind the Flying Flags Campground. Just walk right through a gate to reach us all. Also, directly across from Andersen's Pea Soup Restaurant! AND, this hotel was seen in the recent movie of "SIDEWAYS!"  WOW!
