San Antonio Creek- Ojai Valley Trail Bridge
This project was initiated after the trail crossing was damaged and closed by the 2005 floods. At that time, flood waters washed out portions of the trail and rendered impassable for several month. During that period, the historic fair weather crossing was identified as a Steelhead trout passage barrier at the mouth of a Critical Habitat Creek. Regulatory authorization was obtained for temporary repairs while a permanent bridge was pursued.
Several smaller bridge designs were evaluated, but none could meet the regulatory design standard of passing the 100-year flood without causing flooding of surrounding properties or altering the extent of flooding. Alternate crossing locations were also evaluated and found to not reduce the required bridge size. (From Dedication Agenda)
